WHAT IT ACTUALLY IS
Not your average drop and wait
Most people picture fishing as dropping bait and waiting. Slow pitch jigging isn't that. We will fish in 200-1,000 feet of water!
You work a weighted metal jig near the bottom with slow, deliberate lifts of the rod. The jig flutters as it falls. To a fish sitting on the reef, it looks like an easy, wounded meal.
That falling motion is the whole trick. It pulls bites from fish that would swim right past a chunk of bait.
WHY WE ADDED IT
Because it catches fish
We didn't add this to sound fancy. We added it because it works.
Some days the bite's slow. The water is clear, the fish are picky, or they have already seen every bait that has come down that day. A jig gives you a way to reach them anyway.
It also puts the action back in your hands. You aren't staring at a rod holder waiting for something to happen. You are working the fish yourself.
WHAT YOU'LL CATCH
Built for our bottom
The bottom off Morehead City is full of reefs, wrecks, and ledges. That is exactly the kind of structure this technique was built for.
On a given trip a jig can bring up plenty. Drop it in deeper water and it reaches fish that rarely fall for anything else.
You never really know what is going to come up. That is half the fun.
YOU DO NOT NEED EXPERIENCE
If you can hold a rod, you can do this
Here is what most people get wrong. They think jigging is only for experts. It is not!
The motion is simple once someone shows you. Lift, let it fall, repeat. Captain Shane will hand you a rod, get you set up, and walk you through it right there on the boat.
First timers catch fish with it all the time!
It comes with the trip
There is no separate charge for this. Slow pitch jigging comes standard on our reef and wreck trips. The gear is already on board. If you want to try it, just say the word when we get on the fish.
Some folks jig the whole trip. Some mix it in between drops. Either way works
